I’m not voting for me. To be honest, my day to day life didn’t change one iota on January 20, 2017, and probably won’t change one iota on January 20, 2021. But many lives have changed since 2017, and many, many more will change in 2021.
I’m white. The privilege I receive every day, and the systemic oppression many others face every day, solely determined by the color of our skin, does not have a chance to be remedied if the current occupant of the White House is not voted out on November 3, 2020. I am voting to honor the families of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor and countless others. I am voting because Black Lives Matter.
