West Virginia Teachers Strike, Again

Roughly one year ago, from February 23 to March 09, 2018, West Virginia teachers went on strike.

On February 19, 2019, they did so again, in response to legislation that would create charter schools in West Virginia and allow taxpayer money to be diverted to private schools via “education savings accounts.”

The contentious WV ed bill passed the WV senate on February 18, 2019. However, on February 19, 2019— day one of the 2019 strike– the WV house decided to table the bill indefinitely.

Even so, WV teachers and school support workers decided to strike for a second day, on February 20, 2019. In short, stakeholders just don’t trust their politicians. From the February 19, 2019, Associated Press (AP):
